Carrollwood Day School is a Proud Cum Laude Society member
Carrollwood Day School was approved to join the Cum Laude Society in 2019, and held its inaugural induction in 2020. This is the highest and most selective academic honor a secondary school can earn in the United States. Carrollwood Day School is 1 of 3 Cum Laude Society/ IB secondary schools in Florida and 1 of only 15 Cum Laude Society/ International Baccalaureate (IB) secondary schools in the United States (out of approximately 27,000 public, private, and charter schools).
Founded in 1906, the Cum Laude Society is dedicated to honoring scholastic achievement in secondary schools. The founders of the society modeled Cum Laude after Phi Beta Kappa and in the years since its founding, Cum Laude has grown to approximately 390 schools from around the world. Membership also includes chapters located in Canada, England, France, Spain, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and the United States.
Student membership consists of the top 10% of each junior class, and the top 20% of each senior class. Induction occurs in April each year after careful consideration from the Cum Laude Society committee led by its president, Drew Guarino, Director of College Counseling. This designation is the most selective of the honor societies in high school and is universally considered as beneficial in the college admission process.
