Student Support
The CDS student support team focuses on the whole child by addressing social-emotional, physical and intellectual wellness. We provide support for short-term social-emotional and academic concerns and collaborate with outside service providers to support long-term needs. In addition to supporting student wellness, counselors and learning specialists are here to support CDS families, faculty and the overall community. Please reach out to any of us and let us know how we can support you.
CDS Wellness Philosophy
School counselors and learning specialists at CDS believe all students can be successful. Our approach is proactive, preventative and developmentally differentiated. Through programs valuing connection, resiliency, diversity and mental health, the Wellness team provides an essential part of the CDS experience, helping to build a community to better the world.
Learning Specialists
The learning specialist's primary role is to coordinate academic services, ensure appropriate accommodations, and serve as a student advocate who liaises between our families, Carrollwood Day School, and other external learning professionals. The goal of this position is to support our entire student body by providing an embedded curriculum that promotes healthy academic behaviors, including executive functioning, study strategies, and organizational skills. Co-teaching, small-group instruction, and individual services are also available as our student support services team determines necessary.

School Counselors
Each division has a full-time school counselor dedicated to promoting the success of all CDS students by addressing their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual well-being. CDS school counselors provide support across all areas through individual and small group counseling, classroom interventions and large group prevention education. They collaborate with classroom teachers to infuse the curriculum with relevant teachable moments. At the middle school and upper school levels, the school counselors lead proactive advisory programs that build a sense of community throughout the school and provide opportunities for students to take ownership of developing and advancing character education initiatives. CDS counselors also provide support for parents through individual consultations and parenting workshops.
