CDS values the privacy of its users and endeavors to protect any personal information you share with us. To effectuate our values, CDS ensures compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). COPPA is designed to place parents and legal guardians in control over what personal information is collected from children under the age of 13. This Privacy Policy contains important information about how CDS collects and uses personal information.
Such information will be used by CDS only to conduct official school business and will never be disseminated by CDS to any unaffiliated third party. All of the information that CDS collects from you is subject to this Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. By using CDS’s website, you consent to the data collection practices described in this Privacy Policy. To the extent that CDS collects personal information from children under 13, CDS will provide parents and legal guardians with notice of its collection practices and obtain verified parental consent prior to engaging in such practices.
CDS is mindful of the concerns that some users may have about the privacy implications of this website, and therefore provides the information below so that users may have a better understanding of the information collected and its ultimate use. Please carefully read this Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact CDS.
Terms of Use
This website is intended to provide news and information about CDS. CDS will make all reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of content.
No part of this site or its contents—including, but not limited to, the school logo—may be copied, reproduced, modified, retransmitted, distributed, published, commercially exploited, or otherwise transferred without written permission from CDS.
Privacy Practices for Students Under 13 Years Old
CDS does not intend to collect information from children under 13. CDS recognizes, however, that students under 13 may access our online services. CDS takes your children’s privacy very seriously. It is CDS’s policy to prohibit the collection of personal information from children under 13 until CDS first obtains parental consent from the child’s parent or legal guardian.
What is Personal Information?
Personal information is data that is used to identify a person, including:
- A person’s name
- A physical address or geographical information that is sufficient to identify a physical address
- Online contact information
- A telephone number
- A social security number
- A persistent identifier that can be used to recognize a user over time (i.e., an IP address or a photograph)
CDS will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on CDS or its website; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of CDS; and (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of CDS’s website or the public.
Information Automatically Collected
Certain personal information about your computer hardware and software is automatically collected by accessing CDS’s website. This information includes your IP address and domain names. This information is compiled for tracking the number of visitors and the number of requests that CDS receives for particular pages or files on the website. CDS compiles this information solely to provide support for internal operations and continued improvement of the website. These statistics contain no other personal information and cannot be used to gather such information.
CDS parents are provided access to specific password-protected areas of our website and outside websites, which may contain personal information, such as the contact information for other CDS parents or families.
Student Privacy
CDS takes pride in its student body. To express that pride, CDS places photos of students on public pages of the website. Prior to collecting and using students’ photos, CDS ensures that all parents are provided with (1) notice of its collection practices and (2) the ability to consent to the use of the photos. Students are not identified with full names in the images.
CDS will refrain from using a student’s photo on its website if the student’s parent or legal guardian refuses to permit such use. If a parent or legal guardian previously consented to the use of a child’s photo, the parent or legal guardian may subsequently request, at any time, that CDS stop making further use of such photo.
Email Privacy and Spam
CDS’s website contains email addresses of faculty and staff. Use of this information for private, commercial, or political mailings and/or distribution to any outside party is prohibited.
Online Giving and Other Transactions
CDS is committed to the privacy of all donors and those making any transaction via the CDS website. Should you decide to make an online donation or purchase, you will be asked to provide your name, contact information, and credit card billing information. All credit card information is maintained only to the extent that such maintenance is required to complete the current transaction, and the information is not stored or otherwise retained beyond completion of the transaction. Credit card information is not shared with third parties unrelated to the credit card approval process. In those instances where credit card details are provided, CDS uses the industry standard encryption software, Secured Sockets Layer (SSL). This technology protects your information from unauthorized use via advanced encryption technology.
Third Parties
CDS’s website may contain links to other websites operated by third parties. CDS is not responsible for the privacy practices, policies, or content of such third parties. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those websites. Please refer to the privacy policies of third-party websites to learn how they collect and use personal information.
Cookies
Using Google Analytics, CDS collects some anonymous information about how you use the website by setting and accessing cookies on your computer. A cookie is a small text file containing a unique identification number that is transferred from the website to your hard drive. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.
One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. The purpose of a cookie is to tell the web server that you have returned to a specific page. For example, if you register with our website, a cookie helps CDS recall your specific information on subsequent visits. When you return to CDS’s website, the information you previously provided can be retrieved, so you can easily use the website features that you previously customized.
CDS uses both session ID cookies and persistent cookies. A session ID cookie terminates once you close the browser. A persistent cookie is stored on your hard drive for an extended period of time. The stored cookies will not allow us to learn any personal information that you have not otherwise disclosed. At no time will the cookies reveal to CDS or to others your name, email address, street address, or telephone number.
The use of cookies is an industry standard. It is possible to adjust your browser preferences to alert you when a cookie is sent to your hard drive, or to refuse cookies altogether. This may, however, significantly alter what you are able to see or access on the CDS website.
