A Storybook Spectacle: Celebrating Literacy at Book-O-Ween

Carrollwood Day School came alive with imagination as Lower School students stepped straight out of the pages of their favorite books for our annual Book-O-Ween celebration. From Seussville to Hogwarts, storybook characters filled the campus, turning a love of reading into a day of pure magic.

Each year on October 31, Carrollwood Day School transforms into a storybook brought to life, as our Lower School students celebrate the magic of reading through our beloved Book-O-Ween tradition. It’s a day that reminds us reading isn’t just a skill; it’s an adventure, a spark for imagination, and a foundation for lifelong learning.

Elementary students arrived on campus dressed as their favorite literary characters, each proudly carrying the book that inspired their imagination. They paraded through the hallways and across campus, traveling from here to there to anywhere in Seussville, and even made the climb up Mount Crumpit. Along the way, they were joined by familiar faces from the wizarding world of Harry Potter, classic tales like Snow White, and countless other adventures that have captured young readers’ hearts.

Adding to the excitement, our seniors joined the fun alongside their Lower School buddies, while Upper School students transformed their car trunks into imaginative displays for a festive Trunk or Treat. Elementary students made their way from car to car, collecting sweets, smiles, and discovering along the way that reading can spark both joy and connection across all ages.

At the Early Childhood Center, our littlest Patriots celebrated with their own book-themed festivities. Their parade of storybook characters was every bit as delightful, complete with an elaborate Trunk or Treat, designed just for them.

Book-O-Ween is more than a celebration of costumes, it’s a joyful reminder of how stories connect us, spark imagination, and make learning an adventure.
