This course will be split into two 48-hour sessions. Fridays I will offer an optional 2-hour zoom 10:00 - 12:00 for any student in the sessions that has a question or needs help - the zoom is not mandatory. The first session will cover first-semester curriculum content and session 2 will cover second-semester curriculum content.
Each session will end with an exam to test for mastery of the standards. Students looking for course recovery will need to pass the exam with a B or higher to receive a grade replacement for the semester. Peer Mediation
Peer Mediation
Instructor: Sara Tullis
Grades: 4th - 8th
Time: 9 am - 12 pm
Cost: $225
Is your student interested in becoming a Peer Mediator? The Peace Education Foundation was created with the belief that people, especially children, can learn the skills to deal with conflict - creatively and non-violently - from the interpersonal to the international level! In addition to fun and engaging icebreakers and community-building activities, the camp will follow the Training Institute curriculum that was developed in 1991. While in camp your 4th/5th-grade student will learn and practice the essential components of conflict resolution: Community Building, Understanding Conflict, Perception, Anger Management, and the “Rules for Fighting Fair.” This camp is open to any student looking to grow in those skills, but more importantly to those who would look forward to applying these skills, with guidance from myself and the Lower School admin team, during the 2023-2024 school year! It would be our goal to have trained Peer Mediators on campus who would help other students work through conflicts, as they arise. This is a great opportunity for your student to work on interpersonal and social skills that will help them be successful in the future! If they successfully complete the training they will have the opportunity to gain leadership experience while performing as a Peer Mediator to lower grades during the 2023-2024 school year.
