Dear 8th-Grade Families,
This year has been filled with many exciting opportunities for our eighth-grade students. We started the year in temporary classrooms and moved into our permanent spaces, enjoyed a middle-school-only spirit week and field day, and saw the cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C. Students have learned a second language, studied Shakespeare, and participated in a virtual exchange with students in South Korea. The end of eighth grade brings excitement and nostalgia, anticipation and nervousness, relief and reflection. No matter which emotion you may be feeling, we hope you are as proud of your student as we are. The class of 2026 has impressed us beyond measure, and although we will miss seeing them in the middle school, we are looking forward to seeing them thrive in the Upper School.
You are cordially invited to the Eighth-Grade Moving Up Ceremony on Wednesday, May 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bearss Avenue Campus to celebrate the eighth-grade class. There will be a ceremony in the theatre and refreshments will be served in the Student Union.
Student dress for this evening is as follows:
- Young Men: Dress pants/khakis, dress shirt, tie, and blazer. Dress shoes required.
- Young Ladies: Slacks/skirt and blouse or a dress of appropriate length with formal shoes.
Help us celebrate this special day by submitting one baby picture and one elementary picture of your student. You can email your two pictures to 8thgradepictures@cdspatriots.org. Be sure to include the student's name with the pictures. Pictures must be received by Monday, May 9, 2022.
We are looking forward to a wonderful celebration together. As always, thank you for trusting us with educating your child. It is our greatest honor.
Sincerely,
Chuck Maddox
Head of Middle School
