Elementary Winter MAP Testing
Dear Elementary Families:
Beginning January 10th, elementary students will be taking their winter round of MAP testing, Measures of Academic Progress™ (MAP), for this school year. We give students MAP tests a minimum of twice a year (fall & spring) to determine each child's instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, as well as from year to year, in the areas of reading and math. This year, we have decided to administer an additional test mid-year (winter testing) for all 1st through 5th-grade students to monitor the closing of the COVID-19 gap from previous years.
This winter, these test sessions will be completed from January 10th through January 25th in your child's classroom. (See the schedule below for the testing dates for each grade.) The untimed MAP tests will be completed on a school iPad. There is no suggested preparation for MAP tests other than a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast. Therefore, homework and assessments may carry on as usual.
MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child's level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunities for success. Please encourage your student to do his or her very best on the tests. With MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child's growth, which will then be used to help plan instruction and determine if supplemental academic support may benefit your child.
You will receive a report showing your child's performance through the mail. A letter of explanation will accompany your child's results. If at any time you have questions regarding the results, please feel free to contact your child's teacher or contact me directly.
We value the benefits of using an assessment tool that focuses on every child's individual growth and achievement. With parents and teachers partnering to help all of our students learn, together we can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our children.
Sincerely,
Lana Vargo, LS Assessment Coordinator
