Elementary MAP Testing
Dear Elementary Families:
We are so glad to have your child join us in Lower School this year! Starting September 8, children in grades 2-5 will be taking his or her fall MAP, or Measures of Academic Progress™ tests. We give students MAP tests in the fall and the spring in order to determine each child's instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year, in the areas of reading and math.
This fall, these test sessions will be completed from September 8th through September 24th in your child's classroom. The untimed MAP tests will be completed on a school iPad. There is no suggested preparation for MAP tests other than a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast. Therefore, homework and assessments may carry on as usual.
MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child's level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunities for success. Please encourage your student to do his or her very best on the tests. With MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child's growth, which will then be used to help plan instruction and determine if supplemental academic support may benefit your child.
You will receive a report showing your child's performance through the mail. A letter of explanation will accompany your child's results. If at any time you have questions regarding the results, please feel free to contact your child's teacher or contact me directly.
We value the benefits of using an assessment tool that focuses on every child's individual growth and achievement. With parents and teachers partnering to help all of our students learn, together we can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our children.
