CDS is proud to share that this year's recipient of the Parker Hayes Good Mood Award is Kate Wass. Kate Wass is a junior that is always smiling. She gives 100 percent and is always positive. She can be tired, exhausted, frustrated, or stressed, but when asked to do something, she will immediately try her best. She brings great positive energy to every class and has been known to check up on her teachers to make sure they are okay. She also takes care of her friends and is loyal. Fittingly, Parker's quote “life is too short to be in a bad mood” sums up Kate’s personality.  

Parker Hayes was a CDS "Lifer" who was never seen without a smile and had a wicked sense of humor. A class of 2016 Patriot, Parker was kind, empathetic, and had the ability to make everyone around him feel appreciated and ultimately better having been in his presence. He was known to say "Life's too short to be in a bad mood."

Since his passing, his parents, Sharilyn and Tim Hayes have honored Parker by presenting the Parker Hayes Good Mood Award to a CDS Junior who exemplifies the Carrollwood Day School International Baccalaureate Attitudes. These character traits include:

Empathy Enthusiasm Independence Integrity Respect Tolerance

 

 

 

 

 

And, in remembrance of Parker Hayes, this student must also have a sense of humor and wear a smile on their face.

The Parker Hayes Award should be granted to a CDS junior who best exemplifies CDS values including curiosity and interest in learning, leadership, caring and empathy, integrity, loyalty, and a sense of humor. The recipient should wear a smile on his/her face and understand, as Parker wrote in his college essay, “the fine line between success and adversity can be changed by just a grin or a little eye twinkle.”
