We are proud to announce the Valedictorian and Co-Salutatorians for the Class of 2022.

Carrollwood Day School is proud to announce the valedictorian and co-salutatorians for the Class of 2022, the 14th graduating class from CDS.

Ashna

Valedictorian, Ashna P.
We are thrilled to introduce Ashna P. as the class of 2022 valedictorian. Ashna has exhibited exemplary academic achievement, earning induction to numerous honor societies throughout her tenure inclusive of the Cum Laude Society as a junior, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Spanish National Honor Society. As a result of her impressive PSAT exam as a junior, Ashna was named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist this past spring. As a sophomore, Ashna was awarded the Carrollwood Day School Principal’s Award, in recognition of her academic motivation, responsibility, potential, and positive contributions to the school community. During her junior year, Ashna received the Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology given by the University of Rochester. Additionally, Ashna received the CDS IB Personal Project Award as a sophomore, which focused on vocal range augmentation.

Outside of the classroom, Ashna has excelled in her role as co-president of the CDS human rights club, where she advocates to raise awareness to cases in the local, national, and international communities that violate human rights. She is the founder and president of the CDS Model United Nations chapter, bringing back the organization to our school after years of dormancy. She has volunteered her time for the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory at Harvard University, where she transcribes historical notes from early Harvard astronomers. She completed an extensive research internship at Moffitt Cancer Center, working in conjunction with Dr. Heiko Enderling to conduct an investigation into computational integrated mathematical oncology. Finally, Ashna spent time at Advent Health Tampa as a child life specialist where she shadowed Dr. Sara Frawley in the pediatric ward to learn the intricacies of patient care with a focus on mental health.

Ashna will be attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in the fall.

Suhani S.

Co-Salutatorian, Suhani S.
It is our pleasure to announce that Suhani S. has been chosen as the class of 2022 co-salutatorian. Suhani has been a stellar student at Carrollwood Day School earning selection into the prestigious Cum Laude Society, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Spanish National Honor Society. She is the recipient of the Princeton University book award as a junior, awarded to a student with intellectual promise, academic excellence, exemplary service, and outstanding personal character. Suhani is an exceptional test-taker, having achieved a perfect score on the math portion of the SAT exam, and was named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist in March 2022, representing the top 15,000 students in her grade level in the United States with respect to PSAT scoring.

Extracurricularly, Suhani is the president of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) chapter at CDS. She is a four-year member of the Thespian Society: Troupe 7235, and serves as a grade representative for the past two years in our student government organization. Her commitment to social justice initiatives is truly inspiring, partnering with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and local anti-human trafficking organizations to provide community-wide education into the dangers of human trafficking. She participated in The Abolitionist Project and served as an intern for the United States Institute Against Human Trafficking, taking tangible action in the Tampa Bay area, while attending state awareness seminars, and facilitating meetings with advocacy representatives from across the country to abolish human trafficking. For the past two years, Suhani has served as a member of the Mayor of Tampa’s Youth Corps, witnessing firsthand the role of city government in making a difference for the community at large. Finally, she has completed a shadowing experience throughout high school at Wesley Chapel Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, where she has shadowed medical assistants while learning how to take vitals and record them in medical software.

Suhani will be attending University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in the fall.

Co-Salutatorian Gabe S.

Co-Salutatorian, Gabriel S.
We are ecstatic to report that Gabriel “Gabe” S. has been named the co-salutatorian for the class of 2022. Gabe has maintained a remarkably consistent and exemplary academic record for which he received induction into the Cum Laude Society, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Spanish National Honor Society. As a junior, he was named the Carrollwood Day School Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and he received the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Math and Science Medal for being ranked within the top 10% of his class, excelling in advanced math and science courses, demonstrating potential for success in a challenging academic setting, and exhibiting significant involvement in extracurricular activities. Gabe was selected as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist this past spring as a result of his superior PSAT exam as a junior. He was also chosen for a four-year Army ROTC Scholarship based on his impressive academic credentials and commitment to service. As a freshman, Gabe was given the CDS Head of Upper School Award, the highest individual honor one can receive in that grade level.

Gabe has been a member of the CDS varsity swim program since seventh grade, serving as team captain for the past three years. He holds multiple school records in myriad events, and was a district champion for his senior campaign. He is a three-year varsity member of the boys’ basketball team, helping his team to a regional semifinalist finish as a junior. He is active in student government at CDS, as our student body president as a senior, and class president as a junior, while also serving on our policy and procedures committee as chair. He was selected by the Florida American Legion Boys’ State as the Forum President Pro Tempore, and also was an attendee at the West Point Summer Leaders Experience. Gabe volunteers his time at Grace Family Church where he is a camera operator and technology lead, and has also partnered with the Fisher House Fundraising Project working with U.S. military and veterans’ hospitals worldwide to provide free housing for families of patients.

Gabe will be attending the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York in the fall.

We offer our sincerest congratulations to Ashna, Suhani, and Gabe and look forward to celebrating their accomplishments at our commencement ceremony next month.
