Class of 22 senior, James C., was recognized Tuesday at the City of Tampa, Celebrating Our Unsung Heroes 34th Anniversary Black History Celebration. James, along with several other Hillsborough County School students, was recognized for his community service and leadership efforts in Tampa. 

James is an avid volunteer. Since 9th grade, he has been a part of the group, Men of Vision, serving meals to the less fortunate. When COVID hit, he continued this effort by assisting and organizing food distribution with Feeding Tampa Bay to ensure families got fresh produce. You can also find James reading to the elementary students at Carrollwood Day School to promote diversity and inclusion. 

James is an Honor student, a member of Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, and a National African American Recognition Program Scholar. The College Board's National African American Recognition Program is an academic honor for academically exceptional African American students who have scored in the top 10 percent of the state on the PSAT or earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP exams by their junior year. He has also received a scholarship from Keeping Tampa Bay Beautiful for continual efforts in keeping our community clean.

The City of Tampa Black History Committee presented the 34th Annual Black History Celebration, themed "Hidden Figures" to recognize and honor all the unsung heroes in our community. We are so proud of James for being included in this reflection of the history of leaders and community members who work towards making our region better collectively. Congratulations James.
