2nd grade at Carrollwood Day School was on a mission to recreate their own version of Tampa…but TINY! The students study how people live, work, and interact within their community and for the final project of the unit they focus on how each business played an important part in the Tampa Bay community. Then they construct one Tampa Bay business to be part of their class's Tiny Tampa town.
This unit is under the transdisciplinary theme of How We Organize Ourselves which includes the interconnectedness of human-made systems and communities, the structure and function of organizations, societal decision-making, and the economic activities and their impact on humankind and the environment.
CDS 2nd graders built their own restaurant, banks, stadiums, Busch Gardens, the zoo and many more. There were even replicas of our very own CDS buildings and fields!
Thank you to the 2nd-grade teachers for facilitating this lesson, as well as the parents for helping their students complete this project.
