On February 3rd and 4th, Carrollwood Day School proudly hosted its Third Annual IB Boost, welcoming 50 International Baccalaureate educators from across the U.S. and beyond for an immersive two-day experience. Designed to foster collaboration, observation, and professional growth, this event continues to strengthen CDS’s reputation as a leader in IB education. Attendees engaged in expert-led Learning Labs, participated in insightful student panels where CDS students shared their IB experiences, and exchanged best practices to elevate their teaching. The connections made and knowledge gained during IB Boost will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact, inspiring educators as they continue shaping the future of IB learning.

A Dynamic Learning Experience

The IB Boost agenda was thoughtfully curated to provide a diverse and engaging experience. Attendees participated in Learning Labs led by expert educators, each focusing on key areas of IB assessment and inquiry:

  • Lana Vargo (Teaching Fellow) – Primary Years Programme Assessment
  • Allie Richards (Teaching Fellow) – Middle Years Programme Assessment
  • Sam Glover (Teaching Fellow) – Diploma Programme Assessment
  • Jennifer Dosher & Sabrina McCartney – Activating Inquiry and Agency in Your Learning Community

Beyond the Learning Labs, educators explored classroom observations, advisory sessions, and student council meetings, providing valuable insight into the culture of learning at CDS. They also engaged in discussions with division heads, joined admissions tours, and networked with fellow IB professionals during the IB Boost Dinner.

Highlights from the IB Boost

One of the most impactful moments of the event was the student and teacher panels, where visiting educators had the opportunity to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of CDS’s IB program. These sessions provided a firsthand look at how the school fosters inquiry, agency, and student leadership.

Additionally, roundtable discussions allowed administrators and teachers to share strategies, best practices, and insights on IB development—offering support to those looking to expand or refine their IB offerings.
