The Power of Inquiry: A TEDx Event at Carrollwood Day School
On January 16th, Carrollwood Day School hosted an extraordinary evening of curiosity, innovation, and transformative ideas. This TEDx event, themed "The Power of Inquiry," was the realization of sophomore Nishant Shah’s vision and a testament to the unwavering support of CDS faculty member Sabrina McCartney.
With 11 incredible speakers—students, educators, and an accomplished entrepreneur—the event offered a profound exploration of ideas that challenge, inspire, and motivate action. Watching these bright, poised students, aged 14 to 18, stand before a live and virtual audience was nothing short of inspiring. Their insights and messages carried wisdom and depth far beyond their years.
A Dream Realized Through Dedication
For Nishant Shah, this evening was the culmination of a dream born in 5th grade. He recalled:
"Ever since I was in the 5th grade, I have always wanted to do a TED Talk. I was captivated by the stories, the passion, and the power of a message delivered with purpose. I wanted to create a platform for my peers to share their unique perspectives, to ignite meaningful conversations."
Guided by Mrs. McCartney’s mentorship and CDS parent, Adam Hsu's public speaking guidance and fueled by a team of dedicated collaborators, Nishant brought his vision to life. He opened the evening with heartfelt words: "As you listen tonight, focus on the messages—the conversations the world needs to have, the advice given, and the solutions that may one day shape our future. Who knows? Maybe these ideas will inspire you as they’ve inspired me."
Mrs. McCartney shared her admiration for Nishant’s leadership:"This event started with a single spark—a question in the carline: ‘Why don’t we do TEDx anymore?’ From that moment, Nishant’s passion, creativity, and relentless dedication turned this dream into a reality. Tonight is a testament to his belief in the power of inquiry."

As Nishant so beautifully put it, "The power of inquiry can spark conversations and solutions that change the world."
At Carrollwood Day School, that spark was ignited, and its light continues to shine.
