First, we celebrate three outstanding musicians from Carrollwood Day School that participated in the Florida Music Educator's Association All-State event in January at the Tampa Convention Center. Alyssa C. '27, Liam H. '27, and Evan R. '30 were chosen to perform at this prestigious event, which unites the most talented musicians from schools across Florida to perform in ensembles that highlight exceptional skill, dedication, and artistry. Alyssa made history as the first CDS student to be selected by audition for the All-State Concert Orchestra. This is her second year being selected as an All-State musician—a remarkable achievement, as few students are chosen year after year.
Being selected for the All-State program is no easy feat. Students prepare for months to audition for a spot in one of the All-State Ensembles. The audition process begins in May, when students receive their audition materials. They then spend the summer and fall refining their music, with a blind audition held in September. The results are announced in November, and directors and students alike begin intense preparation to meet the high standards set for All-State musicians.
In January, the selected students gather for two days of rehearsals, where they work with guest clinicians who bring new ideas and techniques to the rehearsal space. These clinicians are carefully chosen by the national and state organizations, and their fresh perspectives help students grow and evolve as musicians. After the rehearsals, these talented students perform their All-State concert programs, which represent the culmination of years of hard work and dedication.
Congratulations once again to Alyssa, Liam, and Evan for their outstanding achievements at the 2025 FMEA All-State event. We are so proud to have such talented musicians representing CDS, and we can’t wait to see where their musical journeys take them next!
This year, we are proud to highlight the incredible achievements of the following CDS students, who were selected for various All-State ensembles:
Next, we turn our focus to the Middle School Honors Ensemble, led by Middle School Music Teacher, Amy Callahan. Every Wednesday morning before classes begin, the dedicated musicians of the Carrollwood Day School Middle School Music Honors Ensemble gather to refine their craft. But their rehearsals are about more than just music. Through their commitment, they are learning invaluable life skills—showing up on time, honoring their responsibilities, and effectively communicating their needs to remain active members of this special group.
Their commitment and perseverance recently earned them an invitation to take part in a wonderful opportunity. On January 15th, they were invited to Ruth Eckerd Hall, where they delivered a remarkable performance in the lobby for everyone attending the Florida Orchestra concert. This experience was a testament to their growth, discipline, and passion for music.
We are incredibly proud of these talented students for their dedication and artistry. Their journey proves that success in music, as in life, is built on hard work, collaboration, and a love for what you do!
