Claire Dosher’s story with Carrollwood Day School began early, long before she ever imagined standing in front of the classroom as a counselor. Claire started at CDS in Pre-K3, where she first experienced the warmth of the community that she would one day serve.
Growing up at CDS, Claire was surrounded by inspiring teachers, including her own mother, who helped foster her love for learning and a desire to give back. Today, she brings her own expertise and compassion to the school as a Lower School Counselor Intern.
As a student, Claire was drawn to psychology and counseling, setting her on a path that would define her academic and professional journey. After graduating from CDS in 2017, she headed to the University of Mississippi, where she completed her undergraduate degree in psychology. Her passion for mental health led her to pursue a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Stetson University, a rigorous three-year program that deepened her understanding of the field.
While at Stetson, Claire gained invaluable experience through a clinical internship at A New Perspective Counseling, where she worked with children and adults from low socioeconomic backgrounds. This experience gave her a profound appreciation for the impact of accessible mental health services. Her dedication was clear as she took on substitute teaching roles in Orange County, working with both middle and high school students, to expand her practical experience.
In her final year of graduate studies, Claire applied for a counseling intern position at CDS. Just one day before her graduation in May 2023, she received a job offer to return to her alma mater. Now, she works closely with first through fifth graders, offering social-emotional lessons and leading small groups that help students build essential social skills. For new students and those in need of additional social support, she organizes lunch groups that foster connection and community. Claire also meets with parents to develop accommodation plans, ensuring that every child has the resources they need to thrive.
Reflecting on her own years as a CDS student, Claire recalls the deep sense of community that shaped her. “I grew up here,” she says. “My mom was here all the time, and the other teachers helped raise me.” Claire also credits the IB program for instilling strong academic skills that served her well through college and beyond, preparing her for every challenge she faced.
When asked about her favorite memories, she fondly recalls the annual Fall Festival and Shakespeare Festival, events that bonded the community and added joy to her school years. Today, she is not just an alumna but a role model, shaping a new generation of CDS students with the same care, empathy, and dedication she once received. Claire Dosher’s story is one of continuity, commitment, and a heartfelt return to the place that has always felt like home. Patriot Nation is glad she’s back.
