Anne Frank Humanitarian Award

Recognizing Suma Anche's Exceptional Dedication to Making a Positive Impact

Carrollwood Day School is delighted to share the remarkable achievement of Suma Anche, a junior who has been honored with the prestigious 2023 Anne Frank Humanitarian Award. This distinguished accolade recognizes exceptional humanitarian efforts by high school students across Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough, Sarasota, and Manatee counties.

Established in 2001, the Anne Frank Humanitarian Award pays tribute to the enduring spirit of Anne Frank, who held an unwavering belief in the inherent goodness of humanity, even amidst the darkest of times. Suma Anche exemplifies these ideals, radiating qualities of compassion, humility, and grace in every endeavor she undertakes.

Suma's nomination for this prestigious award came from the Carrollwood Day School College Counseling Department, who recognized her unwavering dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of others. Much like Anne Frank, Suma works tirelessly to spread kindness and foster meaningful change within her community.

One of Suma's notable contributions has been her selfless volunteer work in bringing a tennis program to nearby Mort Elementary School. As a committed volunteer, she has collaborated with school administration and fellow students to introduce this initiative, providing young children with opportunities for engagement and athletic development.

Beyond her involvement in sports, Suma has displayed a profound passion for nurturing and educating children through her role as a summer camp counselor. Her commitment to creating a conducive learning environment for children aged three to six has been widely acknowledged and appreciated.

Suma has also actively engaged with fifth-grade students at Mort Elementary School, imparting valuable lessons on entrepreneurship and mental health awareness. Moreover, she actively participated in a food drive, exemplifying her dedication to supporting families within the school's community.

Suma's dedication to community service extends beyond the educational sphere. As an integral member of SuperStars, she has organized and facilitated various events, including Cinco de Mayo day, game nights, and field days. Her contributions to aftercare support have been invaluable, ensuring that children receive the necessary care and attention beyond school hours.

Furthermore, Suma has played an active role in the Red Cross club at her school. Through this involvement, she volunteered at the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, gaining insights into the organization's vital role in providing mental health support to the community. She even contributed to the cleaning of ambulances, witnessing firsthand the impact of their work.

Suma's exceptional efforts have not gone unnoticed. The Florida Holocaust Museum commends Suma Anche for her unwavering dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of others. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Suma has been selected as the 2023 Anne Frank Humanitarian Award honoree for Carrollwood Day School.

To commemorate this momentous achievement, Suma, accompanied by her family and friends, attended a reception hosted by The Museum on May 16, 2023. During the ceremony, she was presented with a personalized glass plaque symbolizing Kristallnacht, the infamous "Night of Broken Glass" that marked a turning point during the Holocaust. This shattered night saw Jewish people and their property subjected to targeted attacks across Germany. The unbroken glass plaque serves as a powerful reminder of strength and resilience in the face of adversity.

The endorsement of the Anne Frank House in New York further underscores the significance and importance of this esteemed award presented by the Florida Holocaust Museum.

Carrollwood Day School takes immense pride in Suma Anche's exceptional dedication and commitment to serving her community. Her actions exemplify the core values of compassion, empathy, and social responsibility that CDS instills in its students. Suma's journey serves as an inspiration for future generations to follow in her footsteps and strive to create a better world through acts of kindness and service.

Carrollwood Day School thanks our Director of College Counseling, Drew Guarino, for presenting this prestigious award to Suma and to our Community Engagement Coordinator, Shelly Hollingsworth for supporting Suma.
