Catching Up with Alec Luaces: CDS Class of 2013 Graduate
Alec Luaces, Class of 2013

It’s always exciting to see how our CDS alumni are making their mark on the world, and Alec Luaces, Class of 2013, is no exception. Since graduating from Carrollwood Day School, Alec has carved out a unique path, blending his passion for entrepreneurship with a keen sense of market opportunities.

After his time at CDS, Alec attended the University of Florida, where he majored in finance. His educational journey didn't just stop at acquiring knowledge; it set the foundation for his entrepreneurial spirit. Alec credits the demanding yet enriching environment at CDS for giving him a tunnel vision focus and a strong work ethic. Reflecting on his time at CDS, Alec fondly recalls, "CDS was a great atmosphere, being around intelligent people."

Alec’s entrepreneurial journey began in Bolivia, where he was initially working on creating a soda. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it disrupted many plans, including his. Demonstrating adaptability and resilience, Alec pivoted from soda to hard seltzer, and in 2019, he launched Colossus Hard Seltzer with his father and long-time friends.

Colossus Hard Seltzer is not just a beverage; it's a testament to Alec's vision of being a market disruptor. Starting this venture two years ago, Alec aimed to bring something new and exciting to the market. His entrepreneurial spirit didn't stop there; he also owns Boost energy drink and works as an insurance broker, showcasing his diverse business acumen.

Starting Colossus was a collaborative effort, involving his father and best friends of over a decade. This partnership highlights the importance of trust and shared vision in business. Alec’s goal with Colossus is clear: to disrupt the market and offer consumers something refreshing and innovative.

Looking back at his time at CDS, Alec has many fond memories that shaped who he is today. He reminisces about the Shakespeare Festivals, particularly the Galileo reenactment, the adventurous 7th-grade trip to the Florida Keys, the excitement of Homecoming, and the thrill of Friday football games. These experiences, along with the rigorous academic environment, played a significant role in molding his character and work ethic.

Alec Luaces continues to push boundaries and innovate within the beverage industry. His journey from a finance major at the University of Florida to a successful entrepreneur exemplifies the power of adaptability, resilience, and the drive to disrupt markets. As he forges ahead, we can’t wait to see what new ventures and successes lie in store for him.
