Biography

Sara Key was born and raised in Tampa, FL. She graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and earned her master's degree in School Counseling from the University of South Florida.

Sara’s approach to counseling aligns with Positive Psychology and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). It is the goal of Positive Psychology to highlight the strengths of the student, to use mindfulness and to focus on increasing gratitude and resiliency within the individual. SFBT techniques help students focus on the present and problem solve by targeting solutions and setting goals. Her classroom guidance lessons and individual counseling sessions also align with American School Counselor Association (ASCA) guidelines.

For seven years prior to coming to CDS, Sara was the school counselor at a charter school in Riverview.

“This year I feel very blessed to have the opportunity for the first time to work with a team of school counselors! It is my belief that together we will design a dynamic program that will meet the needs of your students and ensure both their academic and social-emotional success!

“I am so excited about this year and cannot wait to get started! If you or your student have any questions about myself, the services I provide or the school counseling program at CDS please do not hesitate to ask!”

Sara and her fiancé have had to postpone their wedding plans a few times amid the pandemic, but they are hoping to marry this New Year’s Eve! During her personal time, she is an avid reader and loves to travel. Whether it is a short road trip or an 18-hour flight to the other side of the world, she will never turn down a chance to experience a new place! Her hobbies include running, reading, frequenting dog parks with her high-energy but loving American Bulldog, Jackson, and spending time with family.
