How is it 20 years since middle school?

How is it 20 years since middle school?

For CDS 8th grade 2003 class graduate, Emily Collins, 20 years have gone by in a blink.

Since graduating from middle school from CDS, Emily attended Hillsborough High School along with several other CDS alumni. This was before CDS had an upper school! Fellow CDS Alumni, Liesl Voges introduced her to the amazing sport of rowing, which Emily went on to compete in all 4 years...even going undefeated and winning a State Championship junior year!

After completing the IB program at HHS, Emily attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida for her bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies. While at Rollins she was a 4-year student-athlete on the Women’s Varsity Rowing team. Her junior year Varsity 4 boat even placed 3rd at the Dad Vails Regatta in Philadelphia. Dad Vails is one of the most recognized and respected events in the rowing community and their medal finish was among the handful earned for Rollins. Emily also completed a semester abroad in Sydney, Australia, and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Upon graduation, Emily pursued a Masters of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Colorado Denver. Since completing that degree in 2013, Emily began working for local governments, including the City of Denver, as a development review specialist and project coordinator. She also obtained her American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) credentials which hold planning professionals to a higher ethical standard in their practices. In this role, Emily is responsible for reviewing a variety of developments and land uses for compliance with all zoning, engineering, and building requirements as well as adopted plans, policies, and regulations. This has included major Interstate oil and gas pipelines, water/sanitation infrastructure, cellular towers, recycling facilities, and a wide range of commercial and residential projects!

On a personal note, Emily has loved Colorado since moving in 2011 but has not really excelled at winter sports (she blames her Florida upbringing)! Emily recently got married in 2018 and she and her husband spend our time taking our 3 yr old red lab, Otis, hiking, swimming, and camping! Lastly, they are expecting our first child this summer and couldn’t be more excited!
